Today, we rode through an area riddled with wildfires. The smoke got pretty bad for several miles, but we eventually passed it. We were told by several folks in Tok that there was "nothing between Tok and Delta Junction," meaning, nowhere to stay except in the woods. Not real keen on that in bear country. So, we fully expected to ride the 110 miles all the way into Delta Junction, the official end of the Alaska Highway. At the 95 mile mark, 15 miles shy of Delta Jct, we happened upon some cabins and a gas station, the SIlver Fox Roadhouse. Easy decision to make — we stopped there for the night. Dan and Eva were our hosts. Dan showed us around his shop where he had on display amazing tanned pelts of all kinds of Alaska game, not to mention his Buffalo Hall of Fame! Wonderful place to stay, if you ever pass this way.
4th row 1st picture. I can almost hear him thinking, What the heck is that contraption moving down the road?
I’ve looked at the moose again and clearly he has a grin on his face.
